A case of the (sick) Mondays....

Today is not a good Monday.
I went to work and came home after an hour and a half.
I woke up this morning 15 minutes before I had to be at work with an upset stomach, a headache, and body aches (from not sleeping well).

When I got to work, I did my daily report and just sat there. I tried updating my SparkPeople, but when I tried thinking back to what I ate this weekend, my stomach just kept getting more and more upset. I ended up lying on my office floor for half an hour. My plan was to lie on the floor for a little bit, then get back to work. That didn’t work. My manager told me to go home because she didn’t want me spreading anything if I was contagious.

So I’ve been home lounging around watching television all day. Pretty boring, but hey, what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t feel well?

Pictures of Nature

So I just realized I never posted pictures from my weekend...

This weekend, Love and I went to a couple of nature parks in the area. We walked the trails and took in the sights. The parks were so pretty, the weather was nice, and I was with Love. It was a great weekend. :)

And now, without further adieu, pictures of the weekend:

How did you spend your weekend?

Giant Praying Mantis

Every Tuesday, myself and three girlfriends get together at a local Starbuck's for our weekly coffee night. Every week for the last few months we've sat outside except when it's raining, or if there were no available tables. Tonight we were able to sit outside.

As usual, we talked about the goings on in our lives, acted silly and generally enjoyed each other's company. Our coffee nights are my fave.

As the night was coming to a close, a praying mantis landed itself on the curb of the sidewalk and the parking lot, a foot away from our table. And this just wasn't any praying mantis, this was a giant one. Like, 5-6 inches long. It was huge. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera, so I wasn't able to take a picture of it. From what I was told by my friend was that it was a female because it was brown and not green, and females are vicious. Great.

So here we all are staring at this giant praying mantis, not wanting to move. We all sat there discussing it for at least 10 minutes, before deciding to slowly make our exit. We all started walking to our cars and the praying mantis didn't move.

I don't know what it was doing, but it would sit still, then rock back and forth. Then it would move its "arm" up and down. I wonder what the guys at the other table thought of us four girls freaking out about a bug...

Oh, the joys of coffee night. :)

Saturday 9

This is my first time for Saturday 9, so click here if you want to join!

1. In a relationship, have you ever hung in even when you knew for sure it was over?
I hate to say yes, but I have. I had a high school boyfriend and in the year after high school I was thinking that things weren’t going anywhere, but because we had been together so long, I just let it be. The following June he ended things.

2. If you had the ability to perpetually alleviate any pain on your body, what would it be?
Lately I haven’t been sleeping well, so my neck has been getting the brunt of it, so I would say my neck.

3. What place would you visit if money were no object?
Europe.

4. What is one thing you would love to change about yourself?
I would like to have legs about 2 inches longer, or a slimmer self altogether.

5. Do you think your parents were too strict growing up?
When I look at how I was treated to how my siblings are treated now, I would say they were definitely more strict with me, but I wouldn’t change it now. I’m so grateful for the way I am now because of what they did when I was a child.

6. In general, how many old friends do you have that you talk to at least once a year?
I have about 4 or 5 old friends that I talk to at least once a year, and most of the time, once a month.

7. What was the last compliment you received?
My boyfriend is always complimenting my saying that I’m beautiful and whatnot.

8. Have you ever told someone you loved them but didn't really mean it?
Yep. Isn’t that what high school is all about? ;)

9. In your opinion, would it be harder to lose someone close to you more as a child or harder as an adult?
Adult, definitely.

Bad Blogger Alert!

I've been a bad blogger this week.

I know, I know: shame, Jess, shame!

The last time I posted was Monday! What?

But just so you know, I'm still here.

I haven't done much this week for there to be a blog post. It's just been a lazy week.

But!

Tonight I'm spending the evening with Love and we're going to a few scenic parks in the area. So this means I have plenty of opportunities for taking photos and blogging about it! :)

Stay tuned!

Happy Birthday Mommy!!!

Today (August 15th) is my mommy's birthday! Happy birthday Mommy!!!!!

I went over to my mom's house this weekend and she, my sister, and I walked around the couple of blocks around her house because I was in a picture taking mood. I didn't really want to take pictures of anything in particular, but more of just random things.

So I did just that. My mom lives in the historic district and I was able to get some pretty interesting pictures. Below are a few pictures of what I captured.

Enjoy!

Blog Design

So I think this is it!

This is the final outcome of my blog redesign.
I've been changing little things throughout the week, but I really like what I have here.

Maybe it will change again someday when I have the money to have a custom template made, but for now Blogger's template designer works just fine. :)

Enjoy and I hope you keep reading my story!

Football Help!

Okay, so I've decided that I want to follow a college football team, but I need your help. I want to follow a decent team, but I don't know much about college teams, so this is where you come in. If you could please answer the questions below, I would greatly appreciate it!!

1. Who do you think I should follow?
2. Why should I follow them?
3. What makes them different from other college teams?

There are stipulations for each question, though:
Question 1: I don't want to follow OSU or Michigan.
Question 2: The answer "They're good" isn't a good enough answer. I'm looking for specifics.

I would really appreciate all your input!
Thanks!!

Pink Wine and Rain in the Park

I have to say I like having busy weekends. They give me more opportunities to take pictures and blog about interesting stories.

Friday wasn’t the most eventful, but Love and I went to Meijer. I really just wanted ice cream, but I didn’t leave with any. Nope, none. Instead I left with these items:

Weird combination, right? Well, I really just wanted to try that flavor of Fiber Plus bars, and I don’t really know why I bought the wine. Maybe because I like the fact that it’s called Pink Truck? I don’t know I’m just intrigued by it. After we left Meijer, since I didn’t find any ice cream I wanted (their case was over half empty), we went to Kroger. Kroger had a sale going on in the ice cream aisle and most of their pints were on sale. I got Ben & Jerry’s half baked in a pint and it is quite delish!

Saturday I went to a baby shower for someone in my stepmom’s family. Since the shower was for someone I only see during family events, I didn’t take my camera, so I don’t have any pictures. The shower was at a park. They had Qdoba catered in and only played two games, but it was fun. Nothing special, just oohs and aahs when she was opening her gifts.

Sunday was by far the most interesting day this weekend. Love’s mom had a family cookout at a local park. I got there at noon, and Love, him mom, and stepdad were already there. The rest of the family showed up gradually after I did. Everyone was able to catch up with everyone else and the kids had fun.

Love filled water balloons the night before and the kids found them. They ended up throwing them at each other, but also at their dads and Love. Once all the prefilled balloons were busted, the kids started filling up the rest of the other balloons. After all was said and done, Love and two of his brothers were soaked, along with the kids. It was fun watching the kids chase around the adults. Below are a few of the pictures of the water balloon fight.

After the water balloon fight, everyone was starting to dry, and a storm was approaching…fast. Within 15 minutes of the dark clouds rolling in, it started pouring. All of us were under the shelter for at least 30 minutes while it rained, and it was windy, but I was able to get out my camera and take some pictures of the rain:

After the rain let up, we all gathered everything quickly and left. I got home around 6 and when I got home, 5 minutes away from the park, the sun was peeking out. What? Really? We could have stayed and hung out some more. But all was good because when I got home I played with this cutie:

My brother and his wife were over and of course my adorable nephew! We played with trains.

He loves playing with trains.

When I got up to put my stuff away, he told me not to leave him again. It was the cutest thing! He said, “Jess, don’t leave me again” in the most serious voice a 2 year old can have. My heart melted. I love that kid. When I have kids someday, I hope they’re as well behaved as he is.

Now that I’ve written another book, I think it’s time for me to be doing other things, such as getting ready for bed!

Goodnight, y’all!

Yup

I'm still here. I had a busy weekend and I would love to post about it, but I have pictures and they're on my home computer and I'm at work. :(

But that just means you'll have to come back later to see what I did this weekend!

Also, I have a new look, as you can tell (duh!) but I'm still not sure if this is going to stay this way. I'm still tweeking it and what not, so you'll still have to check back for the final result! Don't worry I'll post when I am finished tweeking everything.

Until later, have a happy Monday!

Makeover

I've been toying with various different things around here, trying to find something that fits my header. I absolutely love my header and don't want to change it, but everything else doesn't feel quite right.

So, my goal this weekend and next week (to be finished August 13), is to revamp the ol' storyteller here. Keep a lookout for the complete makeover! Happy Friday!! :)

My Baby Boy

Let me introduce my baby boy.

His name is Shadow.

He is a domestic longhair, all black (with 2 white spots on his belly) kitty.

Isn't he cute?

I got him right after I graduated high school. He was born May 25, 2005 in a litter of black and orange kitties. His mommy was orange, and apparently a black kitty got her pregnant. He was part of a 6 kitten litter, and by the looks of him now, you would never know he was the runt. I was immediately drawn to him because of him being the runt, but also because his fur was so long.

The mommy belonged to my grandma's old neighbor. They had a sign that said free kittens, and my grandma said that she would get me one as part of my graduation present. We went over and looked at them and I was smitten. At that time, the kittens weren't old enough to be taken from their mommy, so I couldn't take him home then. When they were old enough, my grandma got him and kept him at her house. My dad wouldn't let me bring him home until he was declawed and neutered. So, at a mere 5 months old, my grandma found a vet that did both at once and I was finally able to bring him home.

This was him when he lived with my grandma:
Isn't he cute that little?!?

He's also an outside kitty.

Some of his nicknames include:
Pretty Kitty
Baby Boy
Baby Kitty
Doe-Doe
Kitty
And there are random other ones that the family call him, but above is what I call him.

This is the first picture of me and my furbaby when he was just a kitten:

He's such a cuddle kitty also, and I just love him. :)
