Number Three - Parents

Since I recapped my long weekend here and here, I thought today I would post number three of my 30 things: My relationship with my parents.

First off, if you don't already know, my parents are divorced. They both have remarried different people and are very happy.

I did the majority of my growing up with my mom and stepdad.
Christmas 2011
My parents divorced when I was 8 and they both got remarried when I was 9.
I lived with my mom until I was 17, and then I moved in with my dad.

I've always been close with both my parents.
I can tell them anything.
They are the biggest influences in my life.

They may not always get along with each other, but for myself, and my brother and sister, they would do anything.

I love them both more than anything and I don't know what I would do if I lost one of them.

Happy Anniversary!

Today is my dad and stepmom's anniversary.
Christmas 2010
They've been married for 17 years.

They started a tradition years ago that we put up the Christmas tree on their anniversary.
So you can only guess what we did today.

1. We all participated in putting the tree together.
2. Then Dad and Stepmom put on the lights.
3. The tree after putting on the ornaments.

And then I took the opportunity to take a few extra pictures...

1. Bubby and Shadow
2. Bubby, Shadow and I
3. Dad put up his Notre Dame flag after their win yesterday.

Today was such a wonderful, relaxing day.
It's definitely what I needed after the last two days at work.

How was your weekend?

Thanksgiving Celebration

This year, Thanksgiving was a little unorthodox.

Zach and I went to my grandma's house. Something happened before we got there, and when we walked into the house, the tension could be cut with a knife.

It was bad.

After things calmed down a little bit, we all ate and talked. Some of us caught up with others and some just talked about what had happened. It's not my place to post the dirty details of what happened on the web. Sorry ladies!

About an hour after we got there, I had to take Zach back to his car at my house, because he went to his mom's house.

Later, I went to my mom's house and hung out for a bit because my stepsister was in town.

Since I work retail, I had to work Friday morning. Luckily I work at TJ Maxx and we don't have any special sales ever on Black Friday so we weren't trampled or didn't have super long lines.

Later that evening, my dad's family celebrated Thanksgiving.
I heard a lot of congratulations and it was a much lighter atmosphere.
We had lasagna for dinner (yum!) and exchanged names for Christmas. Everyone has to write a list of what they want and we draw names, you can't get anyone in your household (in other words, you can't get your sibling or parent). I drew one of my cousin's names.

I love the holiday season, but this year, I'm kind of glad that Thanksgiving is over. I just hope Christmas is less dramatic.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Why I'm Thankful

I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but better late than never, right?

Being Thanksgiving, I wanted to do a list of all the reasons I'm thankful this year.

1. My family.
Although my Thanksgiving wasn't anything that I expected, I love my family. They are the main reason I am who I am.

2. My friends.
My family can be crazy. I'm so thankful to have my friends to be able to call and save me from my crazy family.

3. My fiancé.
He is amazing. He's my rock. I'm so glad I get to spend the rest of my life with him.

4. My job.
I may not always be excited for work, but I do like my job. I love the people I work with, and I enjoy doing what I do. And of course I'm thankful to have a steady paycheck.

5. The essentials.
I'm thankful to be able to have enough to eat and a roof over my head. There are too many people in this world that don't have a home, nor enough to eat.

6. My God.
He is by far the greatest thing I am thankful for. Without Him, I definitely wouldn't be here. By His grace, I was born onto this beautiful planet and given my wonderful parents.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Since nothing interesting is going on in my life right now besides work, I've decided to link up with Neely and Amber for

I Am Me

I am me
I am a friend
A sister
A daughter
A granddaughter
I am a lover
I care
I’ll be there
When no one else is
I am a fighter
For my beliefs
Yet I fall in love
I learn from those around me
And teach those close to me
I am a wanderer
A path taker
And focused
I am a granddaughter
A daughter
A sister
A friend
I am me.

I wrote this in October 2008. I have a small collection of poetry I've written and I've decided to share a few poems with you. This is the first one I wrote. Stay tuned for more to come in the future.

Number Two - Fears

Remember my 30 Things challenge I started?
Today I'm going to tell you about number 2.

Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.

1 - I'm deathly afraid of going bankrupt.
This is probably my worst fear, and biggest worry. My parents, when they got divorced, declared bankruptcy. I kind of inherited the "spend money" gene from both of my parents and I have debt that I'm not proud of, but I'm working hard to try and eliminate it. One of my goals before I get married is to cut my credit card debt in half or eliminate it completely.
No, thank you.

2 - I don't want to lose someone close to me.
I've never lost anyone extremely close to me, and I don't want to. I've heard stories of friends who have lost a parent or close friend, and I can't even imagine what they went through. I would be lost if one of my siblings or parents or even a really close friend.
My mom and I on my birthday this year.

3 - I'm afraid of being robbed.
I've had my car broken into before. The thieves didn't take anything major except my car change, but I still felt really violated. I can't imagine how I would have felt if there was something valuable taken, or even worse, my credit card/ID.

What are your fears?
