Remember my last post?
When I said that I had news, but was mean and left a cliffhanger?
Well, here it is.
I GOT A NEW JOB!!!
I will be an Assistant Manager at Famous Footwear!
As you may or may not know, I've been trying to move up to Assistant Manager at TJ Maxx.
A few weeks ago, I sat down with my managers and we talked about my future and the future of our store.
(We're in line for a 4th manager.)
The job for our store was posted and I applied for it. I let them know, and I also let them know that I was looking elsewhere. What if I didn't get offered the job at our store? I didn't want to be in my current job title forever.
So just over two weeks ago, I applied to Famous Footwear (FF) and a couple other stores to be an assistant manager. The next day I got a call from FF to come in for an interview.
I was so surprised because I've been applying to different stores for months, and hadn't heard anything from anywhere!
The following Tuesday I went in for my interview. I interviewed with the store manager and it didn't feel like an interview at all. He was so easy to talk to, and before I knew it, it had already been an hour. He then told me the next step was a phone interview with another store manager. He said that manager would call me later that day or the next day and set up a time to talk on the phone.
I felt so good after the interview and I hoped I would hear from the other manager that night.
I got home and not even an hour later I had a missed call from the other store manager. I promptly called back and we agreed on a time for the next day.
The next day, I got off work and I made sure I left the store on time.
I got home and had a few minutes to spare before she called me.
I got a drink and my phone rang.
I talked to her for about 30 minutes and she focused on questions about different scenarios, like, "What would you do in this situation?"
I felt even better about this job after talking to her.
At the end of the conversation, she said she would talk with the manager that interviewed me and the district manager and that I would hear from the other manager after that.
I didn't hear anything the next day.
The following day when I went on my lunch, I still hadn't heard anything.
I had told my managers about my interviews, but I hadn't been offered anything yet.
When I was getting ready to leave for the day, I checked my phone and had a missed call and a voicemail.
I waited until I got to my car before checking my voicemail and it was FF.
Of course I called back right away because he didn't say anything hinting to an offer in the message.
The first thing he said was that he wanted to offer me the job.
I'm glad I wasn't driving because I was literally jumping for joy in my car. You would have laughed.
He described a few things and I knew I wanted to discuss things with Zach before taking the job, so I asked if I had time to think about it. And of course I did.
Zach and I talked A LOT about it, and I talked with my dad and mom and I prayed about it. A LOT!
At times I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions.
On one hand, I loved working for TJ Maxx and I knew my district manager wanted to meet with me in the next couple of weeks, but on the other hand, I had this offer that was going to pay me more than what I make now, and I wasn't certain that I would get an offer from TJ Maxx.
Once I realized that (and my dad knocked some serious sense into my head), I knew what the right thing for me to do: accept the offer.
And I did.
I gave my two weeks to TJ Maxx and my last day there is July 23.
So for a quick timeline: I applied on Thursday, got a call on Friday, had an interview on Tuesday, a phone interview on Wednesday, an offer on Friday, and I accepted it on Monday.
Who knew things like that could happen in 10 days?!?
I sure didn't!
I may or may not be counting the days until I start FF/leave TJ's.... ;)
